43rd chat and eat night at ost eatery

Last night, we had the pleasure of spending an incredible evening at the newly opened Ost Eatery in Truro, and it was nothing short of magical. Despite the wet Tuesday weather, 32 foodies, both new and old friends, came together to enjoy a night of exceptional cuisine and community spirit.

Owners Lou and Andy, crafted a stunning three-course meal using locally sourced produce. Our taste buds were treated to:

Starter: Seaborne Fish Sea Bass ceviche or Soul Farm Beetroot ceviche

Main: Organic Tresemple Farm Lamb with celeriac mash or Fresh Soul Farm courgette homemade pasta

Both served with a Soul Farm burnt courgette salad and tomato and cucumber salad.

Dessert: A beautiful basil and olive oil parfait with a delightful balance of smooth olive oil and honey sweetness, was simply delicious.

We were honoured to have Laurence Jarrett-Kerr, co-founder of Soul Farm, join us. Laurence shared the inspiring ethos behind their no-dig farming methods, emphasising community, investment, and support. Soul Farm is part of a cooperative with 200 members and also manages the The Food Barn - Tregew Market in Flushing, open on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

Laurence provided fascinating tips on sustainable gardening, such as innovative slug removal techniques using a milk bottle and beer and avoiding wooden-framed raised beds, which slugs love to hide in. His insights were incredibly valuable and have inspired many of us to consider joining their veg box scheme and volunteer days, where participants can enjoy some delicious cake for their hard work every Wednesday.

A heartfelt thank you to Furniss of Cornwall for generously donating assorted snack pack biscuits for our guests to take home. It was a wonderful gesture that added an extra touch of sweetness to an already perfect evening.

The evening was thoroughly enjoyable for everyone, filled with delectable food, insightful conversations, and a strong sense of community. We're already looking forward to our next gathering and can't wait to see what culinary adventures lie ahead.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this night truly special. Let's continue to support our local establishments/ producers and enjoy the incredible bounty Cornwall has to offer.
